Henry, who appears as the carefree and often badly behaved young Prince Hal in two of Shakespeares earlier plays, has been crowned King of England. Before long, he finds himself leading an army to invade France. The play is based on real events surrounding the Battle of Agincourt in 1415.
While Henry V is a patriotic play that often seems to celebrate war, in parts it offers a more balanced portrayal, for example in the famous scene where Henry goes disguised among his troops and hears what they really think of him.
